01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
At Yocchan, the appeal of yakitori is in choosing one skewer at a time, then ordering another of a cut you particularly enjoy. The menu lists skewers of mature chicken, heart, gizzard, chicken tail, skin, cartilage, liver, chicken tenderloin with red string, and breast, each priced at 150 yen. Diners have mentioned enjoying the skin, heart, cartilage, leek and chicken meatballs, so ordering a few different cuts to try sounds like a good way to start.
Some diners who sampled several skewers have shared that they tried them with salt, shichimi chilli seasoning and yuzu. Changing the seasoning can be a way to find your favourite pairing, even with the same cut. There are chicken dishes beyond the skewers, too: a chicken-and-leek rice bowl costs 600 yen, a young-chicken-fry rice bowl 750 yen, the “Man’s Curry” 700 yen, and curry udon 700 yen. Choose the chicken-and-leek bowl to keep the focus on yakitori, or make a heartier finish of it with the fried-chicken bowl or curry udon.
The menu also features dashimaki-meshi, fried rice tucked inside a Japanese rolled omelette. It offers a different take on a rice dish from the standard dashimaki. Drinks listed include draft beer, taru-hi cocktails, shochu, highballs and sake, which can be paired with skewers or small plates.
Yocchan is open Monday to Saturday from 19:00 until 3:00 the following day, and is closed on Sundays. For anyone looking for a late meal, it is useful to have choices ranging from skewers to rice bowls and udon.
